Motherhood Poem

Fresh Start

The day we brought

You home from the

Hospital--

Tiny,

Pink

New—

The trees were frosted in

Delicate neon

Green,

Cluttered with milk-white popcorn blossoms;

The robin was busy

Building her

Nest

Under the eaves of the

A-frame--

Everything bright, clean, new,

As if the world’s beginning

Were just for me and you.
